Bierd Coming to Frederick

June 25, 2008 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

Baltimore Orioles right-handed relief pitcher Randor Bierd will begin rehabbing with the Frederick Keys tomorrow at Harry Grove Stadium, as they begin a six-game home stand.

The O's selected Bierd with the third overall pick in the 2007 Rule 5 draft. The Dominican Republic-native pitched well enough in Spring Training to earn a spot on the big league club. He made nine appearances with Baltimore in 2008, posting a 0-1 record with a 2.03 ERA, before being placed on the fifteen-day disabled list due to shoulder impingement.

Bierd previously pitched in the Detroit Tigers system. His best season came in 2007, when he split time between the low-A West Michigan Whitecaps and the double-A Erie Sea Wolves. Between the two clubs, Bierd went 4-3 with a 2.93 ERA. He struck out 81 batters in just 67.2 innings of work.

The Keys will return from the All Star break to open up a three-game series against the Kinston Indians tomorrow evening at Harry Grove Stadium. So far in the second half, Frederick is 2-4, making them tied for second in the Carolina League's Northern Division. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.

The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and are the reigning Carolina League champions. For information regarding season ticket or group plans for the 2008 season contact the Keys at 301-815-9900.
