Bibee Wins as RubberDucks Take 6-4 Finale in Altoona

Summary

RubberDucks right-hander Tanner Bibee allowed just one run in six innings to earn his first Double-A win, and second baseman José Tena drove in three runs to lead Akron's 6-4 win over the Altoona Curve Sunday night, as the visitors won five of the six games in the series at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Turning Point

With a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning, Akron added two runs against right-hander Cristofer Melendez. Left fielder Micah Pries tripled to right-center field, third baseman Daniel Schneemann walked and Tena hit a two-out, two-run double to center field. Altoona answered with first baseman Aaron Shackelford's two-run home run in the bottom of the inning, but Akron got the runs back in the top of the eighth inning, as catcher Bryan Lavastida homered, and first baseman Jhonkensy Noel tripled and scored on Schneemann's sacrifice fly, restoring the three-run lead at 6-3.

Mound Presence

Bibee worked around a single in a scoreless first inning. He allowed the game-tying run on two hits in the bottom of the second inning before facing the minimum in the third through sixth innings, with help from a double play. He finished with no walks and four hits allowed with six strikeouts. Right-hander Manuel Alvarez allowed two hits, including Shackelford's home run, in the seventh inning but held a 4-3 lead. Right-hander Brett Daniels pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Right-hander Cade Smith allowed a pair of two-out walks and an RBI single in the ninth inning before earning his second Double-A save, with both coming in the series in Altoona.

Duck Tales

Akron broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning, Right fielder George Valera hit a leadoff double and scored on Schneemann's two-out RBI single - Schneemann's sixth go-ahead RBI in his last 16 games. Akron took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, as center fielder Quentin Holmes singled, went to second base on an error, and scored on Tena's single.

Notebook

In the six-game series, Tena had six hits and six RBI, Schneemann had four hits and five RBI, Lavastida had eight hits, a double, a home run and three RBI, and Pries had six hits, two doubles, a triple, two home runs and four RBI...Akron leads the season series, 11-7...The RubberDucks won five of six games in a series for the first time since May 17-22 in Binghamton. It was also their first road series win since June 14-19 in Hartford...Game Time: 2:29...Attendance: 5,130.
