Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Myrtle Beach, SC - What a finish. The Blue Rocks (22-21) wrapped up their season-long 10-game road trip with a 5-4 win over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (15-28) at Coastal Field on Sunday night. While the team never trailed, Jeff Bianchi's third homer of the year broke up a 4-4 tie in the eighth, and his leaping snare of a liner off the bat of Chad Lundahl ended the game, and left two men on, including the winning run in scoring position. The bullpen efforts of Ben Swaggerty and Aaron Hartsock helped nail down the win, as Swaggerty (3-1) notched his third win, all in his last three appearances, and Hartsock collected his league-leading 11th save. The Rocks posted a 6-4 record on their 10-game road trip, took two of three on the series and are back over .500.
Next up for the Blue Crew, a three-game series against the Frederick Keys. It begins on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. with a dandy of a pitching rematch between Wilmington's Danny Duffy (5-1, 3.43) and Frederick's Brian Matusz. When they first met on May 8, Matusz struck out 13 and at one point retired 15 in a row. But Duffy whiffed a career-best nine and got the win, 3-0. The Blue Rocks will offer a tribute to The Newlywed Game as part of the "Showtime!" themes that cover all games at Frawley Stadium. The Blue Rocks will have 12 of 15 at home upon returning back to Delaware.
PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:
