Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, Neb. - The Omaha Lancers scored a goal in every period Saturday evening and Grant Besse landed the game-winner with just 1:23 left in regulation as the Lancers earned a 3-2 victory over the Lincoln Stars in front of 3,920 fans at Ralston Arena. With the win, Omaha improved to 34-27-1 overall this season and ended the regular season series with a 7-2-1 mark head-to-head against Lincoln. It's the third time in the last four years that the Lancers have claimed the regular season series over the Stars.

Omaha opened the scoring just over three minutes into the contest when Ryan Tait centered a pass into the slot which was promptly punched in by Tyler Hynes for his fifth goal of the season. The even strength strike came 3:06 into the first period and marked the 32nd time in 62 games this season that the Lancers have scored first. Lincoln evened the contest just past the midway point of the opening period when Phillip Marinaccio found Riley Bourbonnais streaking down the left wing before Bourbonnais deposited his team-leading 25th goal of the year. Justin Woods grabbed the secondary assist on the equalizing marker notched 11:56 into the first frame.

Omaha regained the lead just prior to the midway point of the game when, while shorthanded, Kyle Osterberg connected with Matt Gaudreau atop the Lincoln goal crease where Gaudreau redirected in his seventh goal of the season. The shorthanded marker came 8:54 into the middle frame and marked the fifth shorthanded goal converted by the Lancers this season. The Stars evened the contest once again just over four minutes later when Lincoln responded with a special teams goal of its own when Paul LaDue sent a seeing-eye snap shot from the left point on the power play that slipped through traffic and into the back of the Omaha net. Eric Schurhamer and Marinaccio assisted on LaDue's 12th goal of the year.

After a predominantly even third period, Omaha pulled away for good when Jake Randolph orchestrated a tremendous set-up from the back side of the Lincoln finding Besse atop the goal crease who made no mistake in sending in his fourth goal in seven games since joining the Lancers. Connor Chatham grabbed the secondary assist as Randolph earned his team-leading 43rd point of the year.

Omaha's Cole Bruns earned the victory in goal after 30 saves on 32 Stars shots. With the win, Bruns improved to 8-7 this year and finished the season 2-1 head-to-head against Lincoln. Meanwhile, Stars netminder Jackson Teichroeb suffered the setback despite 26 saves on 29 Lancers shots. The loss snapped a personal five-game winning streak for Teichroeb who moved to 16-11-2 this season.

The Lancers are back in action next Friday evening when they welcome the Anderson Cup champion Dubuque Fighting Saints to Ralston Arena for Omaha's final regular season game at home.
