Everett AquaSox News Release

PASCO, WA - Prelander Berroa threw five shutout innings and three relivers completed the two-hit shutout as the Everett AquaSox (9-7) defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils (6-10), 1-0.

The AquaSox scored the game's lone run in the seventh inning when James Parker walked, stole second base and then scored on a Victor Labrada triple into right field.

The one run was all that Everett needed, as. Berroa allowed one hit over the first five innings, walking two batters and striking out seven. Matthew Willrodt (1-1) pitched two innings in relief of Berroa for the win and Kyle Hill finished the 9th inning for his fourth save

The final inning did provide a dramatic finish. Hill retired the first two batters in the ninth before Gabe Mathews walked and Mitch Nay singled to put runners at first and third. Mike Peabody then hit a slow grounder to the right side, but the Mike Salvatore shoveled the ball with his glove to first to beat a sliding Peabody to the bag to end the game.

Berroa dropped his AquaSox ERA to 2.64 on the season and 2.18 overall (including four starts with the Eugene Emeralds). It was Berroa's fourth start of the season against Tri-City and the third time that he didn't allow a run against the Dust Devils. Isaiah Campbell has not given up a run in his last 11 appearances since moving to the bullpen on June 4. During that stretch, Campbell has pitched 11 innings, allowing four hits, one walk and 15 strikeouts. Hill lowered his ERA to 2.96 and matched his save total of last year when he led the AquaSox in saves for the season. Labrada's triple was his fifth of the season, placing him in a two-way tie for the Northwest League lead with Steward Berroa of Vancouver.

Game two of the six game series is scheduled for Wednesday July 13. RHP Logan Rinehart (0-0, 1.59 ERA in two starts) will start for the AquaSox while RHP Landon Marceaux (2-3, 3.23 ERA in 13 starts) will start for the Dust Devils. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the pregame show beginning at 6:45 p.m. Tune in to 1380 AM/95.3 FM KRKO for all of the action.
