
Berrios Stumps Hammerheads in 6-1 Miracle Victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 25, 2014) - The Fort Myers Miracle completed a two-game sweep over the Jupiter Hammerheads with a 6-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Hammond Stadium.
The Hammerheads put one on the board in the first inning off Miracle starter Jose Berrios. Blake Barber led off with a single and scored later on a Viosergy Rosa sacrifice fly.
The Miracle gained the run back in the second inning. Adam Brett Walker led off the frame by reaching on a throwing error from shortstop Terrence Dayleg. An out later, Tyler Grimes lifted a sacrifice fly off Hammerheads starter Jake Esch plating Walker and tying the game 1-1.
Fort Myers pulled ahead in the third. Niko Goodrum walked, then Travis Harrison lined a RBI double into the left field corner. Harrison raced home on a two-out single from Dalton Hicks, raising the score to 3-1.
With the two-base hit Harrison extended his hitting streak to 15 games and in that span totals 20-for-52 (.385) with seven doubles.
Berrios (4-2) subdued Jupiter's lineup over six innings and earned the win for the Miracle. The righty allowed just one run off seven hits, fanning seven to raise his season strikeout total to a team-leading 52.
The Miracle added a trio of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Walker and Dalton Hicks singled off Colby Suggs, then Suggs hit Grimes with a pitch to load the bases. Max Kepler delivered a soaring double to center, clearing the bases and granting the Miracle a 6-1 advantage.
Mason Melotakis and Tyler Jones relieved Berrios and shut out the Hammerheads over three innings. Jones recorded a five-out save, his fourth of the season.
Esch (2-2) took the loss for the Hammerheads after pitching five innings and allowing three runs, two earned, off seven hits.
The Miracle will enjoy an off day on Monday before heading on the road for a four-game set against the Clearwater Threshers. The two teams are scheduled to kick off the series at Bright House Field on Tuesday, May 27 at 7 p.m.
