Vancouver Giants News Release

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Giants Captain Tyler Benson and defenseman Ryely McKinstry have both been included on NHL Central Scouting's Preliminary Players to Watch List ahead of next summer's NHL Entry Draft. The list was released on Tuesday morning.

Benson was given an 'A' rating, meaning he is a candidate to be a first round pick while McKinstry was given a 'C' rating, meaning he is projected to be drafted in the fourth, fifth or sixth round. 38 other WHL players were also included in the list.

Benson, an Edmonton native, was drafted first overall by the Giants in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. The 17-year-old tallied 14 goals and 31 assists in 62 games in his rookie season with Vancouver in 2014/15. Benson played in both the Under 18 World Championships and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup over the summer, helping Team Canada to bronze and gold medals respectively. He was named Team Captain for the Giants at a press conference last week.

McKinstry went to the Giants in the 2nd round of the 2013 Bantam Draft at 23rd overall. The 17-year-old Calgary blue liner netted two goals and two assists in 30 games in his rookie season in 2014/15 and has already scored one goal and one assist in two games this season. McKinstry has also played internationally as he suited up for Team Canada Black at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge last November.

The Giants will return to the Pacific Coliseum to face the Tri-City Americans on October 16th. For tickets, visit TicketLeader.ca or call 604-4-GIANTS.
