'Belters Host Armed Forces Night

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, has teamed up with local businesses and individuals that have sponsored tickets which have been distributed to area veterans and active service men and women. The CornBelters will be back at the Corn Crib for a 3-game set against the Traverse City Beach Bums August 21 - 23 including Armed Forces Night on Wednesday, August 22.
The "ËBelters and local area sponsors will come together to host the 3rd Annual Armed Forces Night event on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 6:30pm (with gates opening at 5:30pm). Along with the commemoration of area veterans and current service men and women, the "ËBelters anticipate a dazzling night for these admirable men and women. This event will be one of the area's largest tributes to those who have both put their lives on the line and current active military that help protect our freedom as Americans. The entire game will be themed around patriotism as the Corn Crib celebrates a night of reflection. On the field, the National Anthem ceremony will include a marvelous honor guard presentation by members of VFW Post #454, American Legion Post #636, and McLean County Disabled American Veterans Chapter #60 representing each branch of our military. The CornBelters will also showcase the Boy Scout Troop #20 Fifty American Flags Living Memorial around the outfield wall during the game. This inspirational display will encourage us to remember the precious symbol of our flag, serving as a reminder of the struggle and hard work that have made our country what it is today. American Legion Post #636 will also honor fallen soldiers with a 21-gun salute and American Legion State Commander Wayne Wagoner will be recognizing extraordinary soldiers on the field for being involved in the Sea to Shining Sea Program.
The CornBelters organization would like to graciously thank the generous sponsors of this third annual event: Brad Barker Honda, Casey's General Store, CEFCU, COUNTRY Financial, Friends & Family of Josh Favus, JULIE Inc., Pepsi, and VFW Post #454. Thanks to the generosity of our local businesses, the CornBelters anticipate attendance of over 700 veterans, as well as active military men and women and their families in the area.
There are still a very limited number of sponsored tickets available for walk-up at the CornBelters Box Office. These tickets will be distributed to veterans, current military, and their families on a first come, first serve basis. Tickets can be picked up day of the game at the CornBelters Box Office: 1000 W. Raab Rd. Normal IL 61761.
