Maywood Laguneros News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2005) – The Long Beach Jam (8-5) of the American Basketball Association (ABA) lost to the Bellevue (Wash.) Blackhawks (7-7) 110-99, Friday at the Pyramid in Long Beach in front of a crowd of 1,246. The Jam have dropped their last four home games.

Bellevue seemingly had the game in hand with a 96-76 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but a 20-5 run brought the Jam to within five points. That would be as close as the Jam would get as the Blackhawks finished with a run of their own.

The Blackhawks balanced attack consisted of five players scoring in double figures, including a game-high 21 from Justin Murray. Murray also grabbed more rebounds than any other player with 10.

The Jam had six players scoring 10 or more points and were paced by Ramel Curry's 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

Long Beach plowed to an early 11-6 lead in the first quarter, but the Blackhawks battled to gain a 27-25 advantage after the opening stanza. In the second quarter, Bellevue lead by as many as 12 points, but a late Jam run cut the score to 54-49 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Jam pulled to within a point, 67-66. However, a 17-4 Blackhawk run to end the quarter erased any hopes of a Jam comeback as Bellevue pulled ahead 84-70.

Yuta Tabuse did not play for the Jam due to food poisoning.

The Jam have re-signed two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Dennis Rodman. Rodman played with the Jam three games last season, averaging 12 rebounds per contest. He grabbed 14 boards in the Jam's ABA Championship victory over the Kansas City Knights.

Rodman's first game with the Jam is set to be Jan. 23 against the Utah Snowbears. A two-game ticket package to see Rodman play with the Jam is now on sale. The package includes four tickets to the Sunday, Jan. 23, 2 p.m. game against the Snowbears and four tickets to the Friday, Jan. 28, 7:30 p.m. game against the Tijuana Diablos. Both games will be at the Pyramid in Long Beach.

The package, valued at $120, will sell for $91. Priority seating will be assigned to all ticket package purchases. For both games, the first 1,000 fans in attendance receive a free Upper Deck Rodman trading card. To purchase the ticket package, call (562) 799-8100.

The Jam will play on the road its' next four games before returning to the Pyramid Sunday, Jan. 23.
