Bees Score 7 in 4th, Beat Dragons 10-7

Dayton, Ohio-The Burlington Bees scored seven runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 10-7 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field. The two clubs have split the first two games of the series that will conclude on Sunday afternoon.

Cincinnati Reds reliever David Weathers pitched for the second straight night for the Dragons on an injury rehabilitation assignment. He tossed a perfect fifth inning and posted two strikeouts. Weathers, who is eligible to come off the Reds disabled list on Monday, also pitched one perfect inning for the Dragons on Friday night.

Dayton built a 5-2 lead before Burlington exploded for seven runs in the fourth, capped by a two-run home run by Mike Moustakas. The first five runs in the inning came against Dragons starter Luis Montano (4-1), who had allowed only six runs all season over five starts entering the game.

Dayton matched a season high with 15 hits in the game including three each by Todd Frazier and Kevyn Feiner. Brandon Waring, Dennis Phipps, and Jake Long each added two hits.

The Dragons scored twice in the second inning to take the lead on Keltavious Jones' two-out, two-run single. After Burlington tied the game in the top of the third, the Dragons answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. Long delivered an RBI double in the inning and Feiner added a run-scoring single. Another run scored on an error as the Dragons built a 5-2 lead.

But Burlington's seven-run fourth allowed the Bees to take a commanding 9-5 lead and although the Dragons pulled to within two runs at 9-7 in the seventh, they could not overcome the deficit.

Montano allowed seven hits and seven runs (two earned) over three and two-thirds innings while walking no one and striking out three to take the loss.

The Dragons host the Bees again Sunday in the finale of the three game series. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Scott Carroll (0-1, 3.86) will start for Dayton. The Dragons begin a three game series with Quad Cities on Monday at Fifth Third Field.
