Portland Beavers News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - Dallas McPherson homered and drove in four runs, and the Salt Lake Bees overcame two different deficits to beat the Portland Beavers 8-6 Sunday afternoon at Franklin Covey Field.

McPherson had a two-run single as part of a five-run third that gave Salt Lake its first lead. After spotting the Beavers four runs in the top of the fourth, the Bees (81-62) took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning, getting a game-tying solo home run from Adam Pavkovich and the go-ahead run when a sac fly from McPherson scored Nathan Haynes.

McPherson added a solo homer in the eighth for the Bees, who will face the Tucson Sidewinders in the Pacific Conference Championship Series, which begins Wednesday.

Jon Knott hit his league-leading 32nd home run and had two RBIs to drive his franchise-record total (PCL modern era) to 113 on the year. David Matranga had three hits, while Ben Johnson and Kennard Jones had two RBIs apiece for the Beavers (67-76), who wrap up their season Monday afternoon at Salt Lake.

Despite giving up six runs on 10 hits, Salt Lake starter Nathan Bland (7-6) got the win. He struck out seven and walked one in five innings. Marcus Gwyn got his sixth save.

Dirk Hayhurst (1-2) took the loss after giving up seven runs and 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings of the mound.

Portland led 2-0 after Knott's two-run homer in the first inning. The Beavers took a 6-5 lead in the fourth with a pair of two-run singles from Jones and Johnson.
