Sidewinders reach 91 wins

Tacoma - Chris Carter went 3-4 with three RBI and Scott Hairston drilled his 26th home run of the season as the Sidewinders beat the Tacoma Rainiers 8-4 on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadiuum. The win is Tucson's 91st of the year and gives them a chance to finish their season 40 games over .500 with a win tomorrow.

Tucson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Hairston walked with two outs and was balked to second. Carter delivered a base hit up the middle to give the Sidewinders the early lead.

Tacoma made it a 2-1 game with two runs off Sidewinders starter Edgar Gonzalez in the second. Two singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases with no outs and Ismael Castro singled to left to tie the game. Gonzalez induced a double play ball from Oswaldo Navarro that plated another run and put the Rainiers in front.

Gonzalez worked just two innings and allowed two runs on three hits. He walked none and struck out one. Gonzalez departed after the game and will join the Diamondbacks active roster.

Daryl Arreola, a right-hander up from Yakima, earned the win in his Triple-A debut with three shutout innings. He gave up just one hit and one walk and struck out one.

The Sidewinders seized the lead for good in the third. Carter's double to the gap in right-center plated two and made it a 3-2 game. Carter now has 97 RBI for the season.

Alberto Callaspo singled home a run in the fourth before Hairston's leadoff home run in the fifth gave Tucson a 5-2 lead.

Rich Dorman was charged with the loss. Dorman (7-7) went five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked two.

The Sidewinders and Rainiers play the final game of the regular season on Monday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. Right-hander Ross Ohlendorf will make his Triple-A debut for Tucson against right-hander Francisco Cruceta (13-9 4.43) for Tacoma. First pitch is at 1:35. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 1:20.
