Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tacoma - Alberto Callaspo's diving stab of a Greg Dobbs ground ball in the bottom of the ninth inning started a 4-6-3 double play and preserved a 7-6 Sidewinders win at Cheney Stadium on Saturday night. Casey Daigle recorded the final four outs for his fourth save as the Sidewinders became the first team since Sacramento in 2000 to win 90 games in a PCL season. Tucson is 90-52 with two games remaining.

Jon Weber, Chris Carter and Kenny Perez all had three hits and an RBI and Brian Barden and Robby Hammock each drove home a pair of runs. Perez snapped out of a 1 for 24 slide with just his second three hit game of the season.

Tucson jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Weber drilled a solo home run to right and Hammock's two run double to right-center gave the Sidewinders the early edge.

Tacoma pulled to within 3-2 in the bottom of the first on T.J. Bohn's two run homer off Sidewinders starter Evan MacLane. MacLane allowed seven hits and three runs in six innings to earn his first PCL win.

The Sidewinders had a 7-3 lead going to the eighth but Jeff Bajenaru allowed three runs. Bohn and Dobbs had back to back singles to open the inning and with one out, Jon Nelson homered over the wall in left to pull the Rainiers to within 7-6. After an infield single by Ismael Castro, Bajenaru gave way to Casey Daigle who struck out Oswaldo Navarro to end the inning.

Jeff Harris took the loss for Tacoma. Harris (0-3) gave up five runs on nine hits in four innings. All three of his losses this year have come at the hands of the Sidewinders.

Daigle struck out pinch hitter Dean Zorn to open the ninth but allowed back to back singles to Adam Jones and Bohn. Dobbs then hit a one hop smash to the hole on the right side that was speared by Callaspo for the game ending double play.

The Sidewinders and Rainiers play game three of their series on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. Right-hander Edgar Gonzalez (3-8 3.83) starts for Tucson against right-hander Rich Dorman (7-6 4.35) for Tacoma. First pitch is at 1:35. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 1:30.
