Bees Drop Series Opener to Barnstormers
May 7, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
New Britain Bees News Release
In yet another close game, the New Britain Bees weren't able to hold onto their early lead, dropping the first of three games to the Lancaster Barnstormers 3-2 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
New Britain got out to a quick start, scoring two runs in the top half of the second inning against Lancaster's Bryan Woodall on a sacrifice fly from leadoff hitter Brandon Chaves and single off the bat of Greg Golson. Unfortunately, those runs were the only the Bees' offense managed against Woodall and four Barnstormer relievers the rest of the way.
Bees' starter Kyle Simon tossed five solid innings in his third start of the season, allowing three runs (two earned) to keep the Bees in the game. The deciding runs of the game for Lancaster came in the fifth inning due to an error on Bees' second baseman Jonathan Roof which allowed two runners to score. The duo of right-handers Shawn Haviland and Grady Wood combined to toss three scoreless innings of relief, striking out five along the way.
The two teams will finish off the series tomorrow with a doubleheader. The first pitch of game one will be 2 PM, while the second game will begin at approximately 5 PM. Brian Dupra and Josh Outman will get the starts for the Bees with the Barnstormers countering with right-handers J.D. Martin and Austin Bibens-Dirkx.
