Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (5-11) were defeated by the Long Island Ducks (9-6) 7-1 in the second of a three game weekend series at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday night. Long Island has now taken the first two games against their cross sound rivals as Bridgeport looks to salvage the finale tomorrow afternoon.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Mike Antonini (1-3) suffered the loss after pitching six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out three and surrendering a home run along with a wild pitch. Long Island Starting Pitcher Bruce Kern did not factor in the game's final outcome, lasting just three innings while giving up one run on three hits, walking and striking out one. Frank DeJiulio Jr. (1-0) retired the only batter he faced in relief to record his first victory of the season.

Long Island struck first in the top half of the second inning off Antonini on a solo home run to left field off the bat of cleanup hitter Nate Freiman to make it 1-0 in favor of the visitors. Bridgeport answered right back to tie the game at one in the home half of the third inning on a two out opposite field single to left by Luis Hernandez, scoring Luis Nunez to make it a brand new ballgame. The Ducks regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning again off Antonin as former Bluefish Sean Burroughs came back to haunt his old club with a two out run scoring single driving in Fehlandt Lentini to give Long Island their second lead of the night at 2-1, one they would never relinquish.

Looking for insurance, the Ducks found it in a big way in the top of the eighth inning off reliever Joseph Kuzia on a three run blast by Freiman, as his second roundtripper of the night extended the lead to 5-1. The Long Island first baseman collected a four RBI evening, and has five hits in at bats in the series. The Ducks would add two more runs in the ninth off Eric Niesen when Delta Cleary Jr. registered a two run double for his third hit of the night, plating Dan Lyons and Lentini. Seven Long Island pitchers out of the bullpen contributed six scoreless innings of relief, striking out five. Rossmel Perez led the way for Bridgeport with a pair of hits.
