
Bees Downed in Series Opener

(Peoria-IL) Peoria Chiefs' pitchers held the Bees to just three hits on Independence Day, taking game one of the series, 5-0 at Dozer Park in Peoria on Friday night.
Peoria opened the scoring in the second inning, taking the lead on a fielder's choice grounded into by Kenny Peoples-Walls, scoring Juan Herrera, putting the Chiefs up 1-0.
A pair of doubles added to the Chiefs' lead in the fourth inning. Justin Ringo lined a double to right scoring CJ McElroy, extending Peoria's lead to 2-0. Two batters later Steve Bean doubled in Ringo and it was 3-0 in favor of Peoria.
The Bees saw the deficit grow to 5-0 in the fifth inning when the Chiefs added two more runs, chasing Bees' starter Harrison Cooney from the game.
Burlington's offense was held hitless from the fourth inning on, as Peoria went on to add an insurance run in the eighth and take game one 6-0.
Peoria starter Blake McKnight (5-6) picked up the win while Bees' starter Harrison Cooney (6-4) took the loss.
The Bees and the Peoria Chiefs continue the three game series Saturday night at 5:30 PM at Dozer Park in Peoria. Yency Almonte makes the start for the Bees against Luis Perdomo.
