
Dragons Win 4th Straight, Edge Hot Rods 3-2

Bowling Green, Ky.-Dayton starting pitcher Amir Garrett continued a streak of outstanding performances as the Dragons won their fourth straight game, defeating the Bowling Green Hot Rods 3-2 on Friday night. The game was the first of a three-game set in Bowling Green.
Dragons opponents have scored two runs or less in all four games as the Dragons have opened the month of July as the Midwest League's hottest team. They have outscored the opposition 20-5 during the winning streak.
Garrett (3-4) worked six strong innings, allowing five hits and one run with one walk and three strikeouts to earn the win. Garrett is 3-0 in three starts against Bowling Green this season. Dragons reliever Alejandro Chacin pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his seventh save and his second in the last two nights.
The Dragons took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, getting extra base hits from the first three batters of the frame. Jon Matthews tripled to the left field corner to start the inning and scored on a double down the third base line by Tanner Rahier. Rahier scored on a double to the right-center field gap by Phillip Ervin, and Ervin scored on a single to center by Daniel Pigott to make it 3-0.
The Hot Rods scored in the bottom of the third on Kean Wong's run-scoring single to right to narrow the deficit to 3-1. They scored again in the eighth to make it 3-2. In the ninth, Bowling Green's Alexander Simon singled up the middle with two outs, but Chacin struck out Darryl George on a 3-2 slider in the dirt to end the game.
The Dragons collected nine hits. Matthews, Rahier, and Carlton Daal each had two. Rahier extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games. Matthews (9) and Daal (6) also extended hitting streaks.
The Dragons (7-8) battle the Hot Rods (5-10) again on Saturday night at 8:05 (EDT). Sal Romano (4-8, 4.42) will start for Dayton against Bowling Green's Chris Kirsch (3-5, 3.32). The series will conclude on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. (EDT). The Dragons next home game is Tuesday, July 8 vs. the South Bend Silver Hawks at Fifth Third Field.
