Burlington Bees News Release

BURLINGTON, Iowa (5/10/12) - The Burlington Bees (16-17) responded to a 14-to-2 beating on Wednesday night with 12 hits on Thursday afternoon and an 8-to-6 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels (15-19). The win came in front of over 2,400 fans in attendance for Kids Day at Community Field.

Drew Granier made his seventh start of the season and his first start following a loss in his previous outing. Grani- er's performance in the first inning made it look like the Bees were in for another long game after yesterday's big loss. Granier walked the leadoff man and followed by giving up a triple off the center field wall. Ryan Jones earned the RBI on the drive and also scored when Chih-Fang Pan's throw missed the target at home. At the end of the first, the Bees were down 2-to-0. To make matters worse, the Bees fell behind 4-to-0 after the first two innings.

Unlike Wednesday night, the Bees were able to score in bunch in game two and came back to tie the game at 4-to- 4 in the fourth inning.

Royce Consigli led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to center field. Consigli's shot gives him two homers on the year and two in three games; it's also the second time he has hit a home run to lead off an inning. Douglas Landaeta followed Consigli's home run with an infield single, and eventually scored when Wade Kirk- land smashed a double into left field. With two men on later in the innings, Pan dropped a single into right field that allowed Kirkland to score. A throwing error by the right fielder allowed Sean Jamieson to score on Pan's hit.

After giving up a leadoff homerun to Ryan Jones to start the top of the fifth, the Bees received their own leadoff extra-base hit in the bottom of the fifth. Dusty Robinson led off with a screaming triple to center field. Robinson scored on a ground out by Landaeta.

The Bees added three runs in the bottom of the sixth and eventually won 8-to-6 at home. The first seven batters in the Bees' lineup each had one RBI. Jamieson and Robinson both with 2-for-5 and Landaeta had the other multi- hit game after going 2-for-4 at the plate. Everyone contributed to the Bees offensive production; even the last six batters in the line up each scored one run in the game. Granier (5-1) earned his fifth win of the season.

The Bees play the rubber match with Cedar Rapids at 6:30 p.m. For tickets or information, call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
