Beef to Close-Out Regular Season vs. Freedom

July 7, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Omaha Beef News Release

Omaha, Nebraska - The Omaha Beef of United Indoor Football will play their final regular season game on Saturday at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The Fort Wayne Freedom will battle Beef at a 7:05 PM kickoff. The game can be heard on 1620 AM "The Zone" or www.1620thezone.com. Omaha clinched a playoff berth by defeating Sioux City last week, but with a win on Saturday would clinch a home first round game.

Omaha comes into the game with a 7-7 record, which is in a tie for 4th best in the UIF. Omaha owns the tie-breaker over Evansville, so with a win, the Beef will clinch the #4 seed and at least one home playoff game. Quarterback Andy Majors and running back RJ Rollins provided a 1-2 punch that accounted for 114 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in the win over Sioux City last week. The Beef gained 133 yards on the ground in the game compared to only 101 yards through the air. RJ Rollins is leading the UIF in rushing yards with 753 and leading the league in touchdowns with 23.

The Beef defense makes them a dangerous team to play in the playoffs as they have allowed the third least point in the UIF at 34.6 points per game. Omaha ranks 3rd rushing defense by allowing only 58.8 yards per game on the grounds. The defensive backfield tandem of Harold Clewis and Clint Brown contributed big in last week's victory. Clewis finished with 4.5 tackles and a key interception. Brown finished with 6.5 tackles in the win.

Fort Wayne (4-10) was officially knocked out of playoff contention with their loss to Lexington last week. The Freedom lead the UIF in rushing yards with 1257 and are gaining the fifth most offensive yards in the league. Those yards are not translating to points as Fort Wayne is only averaging 35.0 points per game, which ranks eighth in the UIF.

Beef Head Coach Robert Fuller says, "Ft.Wayne is a talented football team that has battled through numerous injuries this season and we know they are a much better team then their record indicates. This is a big game for us and we are excited to be back home after three straight road games. We want to finish the regular season with a winning record and earn Omaha's seventh straight opening round home play off game."

The Beef are in contention to host a first-round playoff game at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The game will be played next Saturday, July 15 at 7:05 PM. Individual game tickets still remain for the game and are on sale now, by calling the Omaha Beef Football office at 402-346-BEEF (2333) or by stopping by the Omaha Civic Auditorium. In the event that the Beef do not host a playoff game, all purchases will be refunded or put toward season tickets for the 2007 season.
