Omaha Beef News Release
Announced this week the Omaha Beef have promoted Defensive Coordinator Dan Thurin to the Head Coach position to start the season. Thurin will take over for Steve Heimann who has held the position this offseason and recently accepted a position with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Steve helped the organization tremendously through the transition this preseason in hopes to help the current coaching staff prepare for the 2014 season. Thurin proves to be an impressive replacement inside the Beef organization with a very solid football resume.
The Geneva, Nebraska native is currently the Linebackers Coach for the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves, a position he has held for the past nine years. Prior to that, he was on the coaching staff of Doane College for nine years, working in several capacities including Head Strength Coach, Linebacker Coach and Defensive Coordinator.
Voted an All-American at linebacker and Team Captain while a student athlete at Doane College, Thurin holds the first and second record spots in team history for sacks per season for where he averaged 11.5 in 1996 and 10.5 in 1997. Upon graduation, Thurin went on to play professionally, first with the Lincoln Lightning Indoor Football then later with the European Football League. His vast experience as both player and coach makes his transition to the Beef Head Coach very sustainable. He holds both an undergraduate degree in Physical Education as well as a Master's degree in Management from Doane College. In addition to his coaching positions, he is currently employed with the Graphic Edge.
Coach Thurin will lead the Beef against the Dodge City Law this Sunday afternoon with kickoff at 3:05pm. Game Tickets are available now by calling the Ralston Arena Box Office at 800-440-3741. To keep up with everything regarding the Omaha Beef, visit beeffootball.com and like us on Facebook.
