Beef fall to Extreme 64-43

Omaha, NE - The Omaha Beef professional indoor football team fell to the Bloomington Extreme 64-43 Saturday evening at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The loss drops the BEEF to 9-4 on the season. The team now sits in a tie for second place with the Billings Outlaws as Billings defeated Wichita 58-31 on Saturday evening. With just one game left, the race for home-field in the Western Conference remains extremely close with the three teams separated by one game as Sioux Falls is 10-3 and Billings also is 9-4.

Following an opening six-yard touchdown run by Bloomington's Dusty Burk, the BEEF knotted the game at seven when R.J. Rollins ran one in from four yards out with 10:08 remaining in the first quarter. Bloomington took the lead right back at 10-7 on an 18-yard field goal by Peter Christofilakos. Rollins punched another one in from two yards out as Omaha went back up, this time by four, at 14-10 with 14:56 remaining in the second quarter. The teams exchanged possessions without scoring before Burk ran another one in six yards out to put Bloomington back up 17-14. James McNear connected with Blake Fuchtman four plays later to give Omaha the lead once again, at 20-17. The Extreme came back yet again when Burk found James Walton on a 12-yard touchdown reception to ahead again 24-20. Bloomington added two more touchdowns to take a 37-20 halftime advantage.

McNear led the BEEF on eight-play, 30-yard drive right after halftime that finished with a 24-yard field goal to bring Omaha within 14 at 37-23. Following the field goal, seven touchdowns were scored by the two teams on the next seven possessions to make the final score 64-43 in favor of the Extreme. Omaha's touchdowns all came via passes from McNear to Javon Bell on nine-yarder in the third quarter while the other two were a five-yarder and a 40-yarder, both in the fourth quarter.

On offense, the BEEF were led by Rollins, McNear and Bell. In the rushing categories, Rollins had 43 yards and two touchdowns. McNear completed 21 of 28 passes for 214 yards and four touchdowns to lead in passing. On the receiving end, Bell led with his seven catches, 86 yards and the three touchdowns. On defense, Dustin Creager led the way, tallying the team lead in tackles with 11. The team made three tackles for loss and also broke up three passes. On special teams, Lebeda contributed seven points on four extra points and his 24-yard field goal while Gerald Biggers returned eight kickoffs for 158 yards.

The BEEF will close out their 2008 regular season at home on June 14th when the Sioux City Bandits come to town for "Orange Out" Night. In addition to the game, the BEEF's pre-game meal will be held at Texas Roadhouse, 520 N. 155th Plaza in Omaha, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Fans are welcome to join the BEEF for their pre-game meal at Texas Roadhouse. Fans are also encouraged to attend the BEEF Boardwalk before every home game, which will have games, music and entertainment out near the entrance of the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Also, on the 14th, the team will be a part of a special fundraiser benefitting Cale Ferrin, the 19-month old son of Justin and Britteny Ferrin of Omaha.
