(Peterborough, ON) - Hockey Canada announced today that Petes forward and Montreal Canadiens prospect, Owen Beck, has been named to Team Canada's Selection Camp for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Beck, a second round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2022, was the only player named to camp who was a part of Canada's 2023 Gold Medal winning team. A late addition to the roster in 2023, Beck appeared in three games in the tournament, picking up one assist. The forward from Port Hope, ON, is coming off of an OHL Championship with the Peterborough Petes after joining the team at the trade deadline last season.

"We're excited for Owen," noted Petes General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke. "He played very well for us last season and throughout our Championship run. He's had a good start to the season this year with the Petes and we're happy to see that get acknowledged by Hockey Canada."

Originally selected by the Mississauga Steelheads 29th overall in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, Beck has played in 151 OHL games in his three year career, scoring 60 goals and adding 82 assists for 142 points. In October of 2022, he was signed by the Montreal Canadiens to a three-year entry-level deal, making his NHL debut for the Canadiens on January 28, 2023 against the Ottawa Senators.

Selection camp will take place at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, ON, and will include practices and a pair of games against a team of U SPORTS all-stars, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT and Dec. 13 at noon ET/9 a.m. PT.

The Petes are back in action on Thursday, December 7 as they host the Brantford Bulldogs for their annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the PMC. Limited tickets are available or by contacting the Grant Thornton Box Office. The game will also be broadcasted on YourTV Peterborough and Freq 90.5.
