Portland pitcher Chris Oxspring posted his second impressive outing in the last week against Tucson, lifting the Beavers to an 8-0 victory Tuesday night at PGE Park.
Oxspring struck out ten Sidewinders in a seven inning, one-run performance on April 15. The Australian right-hander continued his success against Tucson Tuesday throwing six scoreless innings allowing just one single and striking out eight.
Portland scored a run without a hit in the first inning and plated three more in the second off Tucson starter Edgar Gonzalez. Bernie Castro provided a two-run single and Henri Stanley followed with a run scoring hit to increase the lead to 4-0. The Beavers added another run in the fourth to chase Gonzalez.
Gonzalez lasted four innings, allowing five hits, five runs, four earned with five walks.
The Beavers Jon Knott smashed a two-run homer in the sixth inning off Greg Aquino to push Portland's lead to 8-0.
Tucson finished with just three hits while striking out 13 times.
Tucson dropped to 8-4. The Sidewinders will play the second game of a four-game series Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Andrew Good (0-0 0.00) will start for Tucson against the Beavers Matt Bruback (0-1 5.00). The game will be broadcast live on Cool 1450 AM.
