Portland Beavers News Release

RENO, Nev. - Brandon Allen belted two homers and drove in four runs to lead the Reno Aces past the Portland Beavers 7-5 Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark.

Tony Barnette (7-7) earned the win after allowing four runs on five hits in seven innings and Reid Mahon (2) pitched a scoreless ninth to get the save.

Danny Putnam collected his sixth RBI of the series with a three-run homer, Chad Huffman hit his team-leading 13th long-ball and Craig Stansberry went deep for the Beavers (44-54).

Orlando Mercado recorded two hits, including a run-scoring double, and Ed Rogers contributed an RBI for the Aces (50-48).

Wade LeBlanc (2-8) gave up seven runs on eight hits over six innings to take his second straight loss.

Putnam followed a single by Peter Ciofrone and a walk by Val Pasucci with a three-run bomb in the first inning to give the Beavers an early 3-0 lead.

Allen belted a solo shot, his first of the game, and Chris Roberson tripled and scored on a groundout as the Aces answered with two runs in the second.

The Aces knotted the game at three runs apiece in the third frame after Trent Oeltjen reached first base on a force out, stole both second and third, and crossed home on a sacrifice fly.

Huffman put Portland up a run in the top of the fourth with a solo homer, but an RBI double by Mercado in the bottom of the frame tied it up, 4-4.

Reno took a commanding 7-4 lead in the fifth inning on Allen's second home run, a three-run blast that scored Rogers and Rusty Ryal.

Stansberry added an opposite-field home run in the eighth to cut the Beavers' deficit down to two, 7-5.

The Beavers will look to even the series against the Aces Thursday night, at 7:05 p.m. (Pacific).

NOTES: Pitcher Josh Banks was optioned from San Diego and right-hander Matt Buschmann was transferred to Class AA San Antonio earlier in the day ... both three-run homers were preceded by a walk following a single ... the Beavers last hit three home runs on June 5, against Las Vegas ... the team's combined five home runs were the most in a Beavers game since they played Memphis on May 27.
