Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Tim Stauffer limited Las Vegas to one unearned run and three hits over 7 2/3 innings and Brady Clark had three hits as the Portland Beavers earned a homestand-closing, 4-1 victory over the 51s before a crowd of 7,826 Tuesday night at PGE Park.

Stauffer (8-4), who out-dueled former Beaver Eric Cyr, improved to 5-0 with a 1.90 ERA in his seven starts since the all-star break and matched his season high for innings pitched. The right-hander struck out four and issued two walks.

Jared Wells, who has allowed just one run over his last 12 appearances (11.1ip), picked up his fourth straight save for the Beavers (54-77).

Cyr (3-5), who pitched for Portland in 2002, worked six innings against his former team, yielding three runs (2 earned), five hits and two walks while striking out five.

At 5-3, the Beavers, who took three of four games against Las Vegas (59-72), recorded their second winning homestand in a row and are now 31-37 at PGE Park this season with four home contests remaining.

For the second straight night, the Beavers built an early 3-0 lead, getting an RBI single from Brian Myrow in the first and two more runs in the second when a single from Clark and a subsequent error on the play allowed a pair of runs to come across.

Las Vegas got on the board in the third when Choo Freeman led off with a single and eventually scored on a throwing error by second baseman Craig Stansberry.

The Beavers tacked on an insurance run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, but they left the bases loaded with a chance at further damage.

The Beavers begin a five-game series at Tacoma on Wednesday. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: On Wednesday, the Beavers will sign left-handed pitcher Casey Fossum, who will start that night at Tacoma. Fossum started the year with Tampa Bay ... the Beavers have four home games remaining this season, Aug. 31-Sept. 3.
