Beauchemin, Fichaud and Carpentier Under Contract

The Montreal Canadiens, the parent club of the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs, announced that defenceman Francois Beauchemin has agreed to a 2-year contract with the team. The Canadiens also exercised their contract option on goaltender Eric Fichaud for the 2003-04 season. Finally the Hamilton Bulldogs have excercised their option on defenceman Benjamin Carpentier for the 2003-04 season. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Beauchemin, 23, played in 75 games with the Bulldogs this past season, ranking 3rd amongst team defenceman in scoring with 28 points (7 goals, 21 assists). He ranked 3rd on the team with a plus/minus rating of +25. The Sorel, Quebec native played in all 23 Bulldogs playoff games, and recorded 10 points (1 goal, 9 assists). Beauchemin played in his first NHL game on February 27th against the Minnesota Wild at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Beauchemin was selected in the 3rd round, 75th overall by the Canadiens in 1998.

Fichaud, 27, played in 27 games with the Bulldogs this past season. He posted a 14-7-3 record, maintaining a 2.28 goals against average and a .925 save percentage. Fichaud also participated in eight AHL playoff games with the Bulldogs. He earned a 5-3 record, a 2.16 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. The Anjou, Quebec native was acquired by the Canadiens as a free agent on September 10, 2002.

Carpentier, 25, skated in 52 games for the Bulldogs in Hamilton this past season. The native of Grand'Mere, Quebec earned four points (three goals, one assist) and led the club in penalty minutes with 140. During the 2003 Calder Cup Playoffs, Carpentier played in six games and posted 12 penalty minutes.
