NEWARK, NJ, September 10 – Prior to the September 11th game against the Bridgeport Bluefish at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium, the Newark Bears will honor the inaugural class of the Student Leaders Program presented by Statfeld Vantage Insurance Group.

The program, comprised of high school juniors and seniors from schools across Northern New Jersey, was designed to bring together energetic and motivated students and provide unique experiences to help develop leadership skills and give a "behind the scenes" look on how a professional sports franchise operates.

Through the course of the summer the Student Leaders met at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium and heard presentations from guest speakers on topics including business development, sponsorship/marketing, media relations, community relations, operations, and game production. The students then put into practice everything they learned by participating in a designated 2004 game day.

The class of 2004 includes senior Armeena Addison from Weequahic High School in Newark, senior Julia Alai from Morristown High School in Morristown and junior Jannette Caban from University High School in Newark.

"The Student Leaders Program is a great opportunity for young people who have shown potential in high school to learn about the sports industry," said General Manager Dean Rivera. "We look forward to having this program become a staple of our community outreach initiatives."

Game time on Saturday is 6:05 PM; and there will also be live music before the game and a fireworks show presented by Shop Rite following the game. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a Bears t-shirt courtesy of Shop Rite.

Bears tickets may be purchased by calling (973) 483-6900 or online at www.NewarkBears.com.
