Everett AquaSox News Release

YAKIMA, WASH. – The Yakima Bears hit two home runs, but it was a sacrifice fly by outfielder Carlos Gonzalez that gave the Bears an 8-7 victory over the Everett AquaSox Friday night in Yakima, Wash. The win ended a four-game winning streak for the Sox and prevented a sweep of the Bears. Everett continues to hold the best record in the Northwest League at 6-2.

Gonzalez' sac-fly snapped a 7-7 tie in the eighth inning. He was 0 for 4 on the evening, with one RBI.

As though determined not give the AquaSox a chance to sweep, the Bears posted a 6-1 lead in the first third of the game. Chris Carter's three-run home run for the Bears in the first inning was his first of the season. Yakima's Trey Hendricks followed with a solo shot in the third inning, setting the score at 6-1.

Everett scored their first run of the game on a solo shot by catcher Omar Falcon. Right fielder Elvis Cruz hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to put the score at 7-4. It was the AquaSox' first multi-home run game of the season. Cruz went 3 for 5 in the game with a double and three RBI.

The AquaSox scored a run in the seventh inning – but it wasn't added to their total. Brandon Green hit a sacrifice fly that scored Brent Johnson from third base. Josh Ellison, at second base, took advantage of the deeply hit ball and ran to third. The Bears appealed before the first pitch to the next Sox batter, saying that Ellison left too soon. The umpiring crew agreed, Johnson's run was removed from the scoreboard and the Bears kept their 7-2 lead in tact.

The AquaSox return home on Saturday for a five-game series against the Spokane Indians. With the exception of Sunday's 4 p.m. start, all games begin at 7 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium. Gates open one hour prior to gametime. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under will receive a Willie Bloomquist bobblehead doll on Saturday, the first in a series of six commemorating the Sox' 10 year anniversary as a Seattle Mariner affiliate.
