
Bears Fall to the Dogs 7-6 in a Shootout

Owen Sound Attack News Release
Tonight, the Owen Sound Attack was up against the defending Memorial Cup Champions in the Hamilton Bulldogs. It was the first match up between the two games of the 2018-19 season. The Attack held on, playing jump rope with the Dog's in a wild game, but ultimately fell 7-6 in a shootout.
MacLean started in net for the second game in a row, after he saved 24 shots in the Attack's last match up on Saturday night vs. the London Knights, a 4-3 win.
There was an early chance for Attack when Markus Phillips missed a shot at 5:28 and Cade Robinson just missed the rebound.
Nick Suzuki found the back of the net 15 seconds later as he sniped the puck past Bulldogs netminder Nick Donofrio. Suzuki's fourth goal of the season was assisted by his Assistant Captain, Kevin Hancock at 5:46 into the first.
Bulldogs Jake Gravelle got sent to the box at 7:34 for cross checking, sending the Attack to their first powerplay of the game. The Bears maintain control and Aidan Dudas found his sixth goal of the season on the powerplay at 9:04. The play was assisted by Kevin Hancock and Sean Durzi.
Hamilton took control and Arthur Kaliyev sniped the puck past rookie netminder Andrew MacLean to get on the board at 11:34 into the first. Kaliyev's goal was assisted by Brandon Saigeon.
Less than a minute after their goal, the Bulldogs were on a penalty kill as Navrin Mutter is sent to the box at 12:17 for cross checking.
Hamilton took control of the penalty kill, and Kade Landry found the back of the net, shorthanded to tie the game 2-2 at 13:52. The play was assisted by Saigeon and Matthew Strome.
Dog's Jake Gravelle headed to the box for tripping at 18:36 sending the Attack to a powerplay for the last minute and a half of the first period.
Maksim Sushko wasted no time and found the back of the net on the powerplay at 19:28. The play was assisted by Hancock and Durzi, sending the score to 3-2 heading into the first intermission.
Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal for the first period sat at 22 Attack and 13 Bulldogs.
Hamilton wasted no time in the second period as Bulldogs captain Mackenzie Entwistle sends the puck past MacLean to tie the game up 3-3 35 seconds into the period. His play was assisted by Matthew Strome and Isaac Nurse.
Owen Sound penalty to Jackson Doherty sent the Bulldogs to their first powerplay of the game at 4:09 into the second as he headed to the box for interference.
Bulldogs took advantage of the powerplay and Arthur Kaliyev finds his second goal of the game at 5:34 into the period. Kaliyev's goal was assisted by Strome and Mackenzie Entwistle.
Just over two minutes later, Suzuki found the back of the net for his second goal of the game at 7:50, assisted by Alan Lyszczarczyk. Game was back to a tie score, at 4-4.
Daylon Groulx and Bulldogs captain Mackenzie Entwistle exchange fisticuffs which sent both players off, receiving 5 minutes each for fighting at 9:52.
Bulldogs Nicolas Mattinen is sent to the box for interference at 12:33, sending the Attack to another powerplay on the evening.
Hamilton killed the penalty, and out of the box the Dog's got a breakway. MacLean stopped the shot but not the play and Durzi dived to make an unreal save.
Russell headed to the box at 16:37 for head check, sending Hamilton to another powerplay. Arthur Kaliyev knew what to do and found the back of the net for a hattrick on the evening at 17:35. The play was assisted by Saigeon and Landry, sending the score to 5-3 heading into the second intermission.
Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal for period number two were 10 for the Attack and 19 for the Bulldogs.
Alan Lyszczarczyk opens up the third period with a beauty goal, assisted by Durzi and Markus Phillips at 1:29 into the period to tie it up 5-5.
Hamilton turned it around and scored, with their captain Mackenzie Entwistle finding the back of the net at 3:46. Entwistle's sixth goal of the season was assisted by Matthew Strome to make the score 6-5 Bulldogs.
Hancock found the back of the net from a beauty pass by Suzuki at 10:28 into the third to tie the score back up again at 6-6. The play was also assisted by Sean Durzi.
Markus Phillips landed a penalty for hooking at 11:55 into the third, sending the Bulldog's to another powerplay. The Attack were able to kill the penalty and keep the scored tied at 6.
Neither team could find the back of the net before the buzzer went and the game headed to overtime.
Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal were 9 for the Attack and 5 for the Bulldogs in the third period.
With 5 minutes of 3 on 3 overtime, the Attack held control but were unable to find the back of the net with 6 shots on goal. The Bulldogs failed to put a shot on net in OT.
We headed to a shootout. First shooter for Hamilton was Arthur Kaliyev, he missed. Attack's Suzuki was up to the plate but also missed.
Bulldog's Brandon Saigeon shot and scored. Owen Sound's Alan Lyszczarczk shot and scored. Hamilton's Matthew Strome shot and scored. Durzi was up for Owen Sound and missed. Final score 7-6 Hamilton.
Hamilton's Arthur Kaliyev earned first star honours for his hattrick on the evening. Owen Sound's Sean Durzi earned second star honours for his 4 points, while Kevin Hancock earned the third star with his goal and 3 assists. Netminder Andrew MacLean stopped 28 shots in the contest.
Cade Robinson earned the Hatten Home Hardware Hardest Working Player of the Game, voted by the fans.
At the end of OT, Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal were 47-34, in favour of Owen Sound.
