Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

Traverse City MI- The Traverse City Beach Bums have made a key addition to the 2010 team, signing outfielder Jason Codiroli. A native of San Jose, California, Codiroli has two seasons of professional baseball experience, including six games last season with the Triple-A Portland Beavers.

The San Diego Padres selected Codiroli in the 20th round of the 2008 draft. He started his professional career with the Padres rookie league team, the Arizona League Padres. In 51 games, he hit.309 with a homerun and 14 RBI. His.422 on-base percentage was fourth-best in the league.

The Padres moved Codiroli to the Eugene Emeralds, the team's Northwest League affiliate, to start the 2009 season. The 5'10'', 175-pound outfielder batted.290 in 59 games with four homeruns and 29 RBI. His 15 stolen bases led the team. His success with the Emeralds earned him a promotion to the Triple-A Portland Beavers in early September. He went 4-for-19 at the plate in six games for Portland with one double, one triple, two runs scored and three RBI.

"Codiroli is a significant addition to our outfield and our lineup," said Beach Bums' Director of Baseball Operations, Jason Wuerfel. "We rarely get the opportunity to sign a player that has put up the kind of numbers he has in his first two years of professional baseball, and we believe he will be an impact guy from day one. He can change the game with his legs both defensively and offensively, covering a lot of ground in the outfield and he will always be a threat to steal a base. He has terrific plate discipline and has the ability to spray the ball all over the field. Codiroli is the type of player people will pay to watch play the game."

Codiroli played at West Valley College in Saratoga, California before being drafted by the Padres. In 39 games for the Vikings in 2008, he hit.356 with 57 runs scored. He was 25-for-26 on stolen base attempts.

He comes from a baseball family. Codiroli's father, Mike, played in the minor leagues for six years. Mike's brother, Chris, had an eight-year major league career with the Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals. He won a career-high 14 games with the Athletics in 1985.

The Traverse City Beach Bums are entering their fifth season of play in 2010, with the home opener scheduled for Friday, May 28th versus the Oakland County Cruisers. The Beach Bums will play 54 of their 96 games at home in 2010. Season tickets are now on sale -- please phone 231-943-0100.
