TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.-- Thanks to their great fans, the Traverse City Beach Bums added $1,227 to the 2009 Beach Bums Donation Fund through the first online auction on www.tcbeachbums.com which closed on March 15.

Items won in the auction included limited-time opportunities to be a bench coach for a game, taking pre-game batting practice or shag balls with the team, spending time as the radio color commentator, private lessons from manager Gregg Langbehn and pitching coach Roger Mason, team autographed jersey and T-shirt, and spending a game with "The Show" production crew and clubhouse manager.

Winning bids ranged from $30 to $250 with pre-game batting practice garnering the highest bids.

With the auction's success, the Beach Bums plan to continue their online auctions and have posted a new batch of items on their online auction site found at www.tcbeachbums.com. The current online auction will expire on April 16. As an added incentive, every time a fan bids on any item, they are entered into a drawing to win two free 2009 Beach Bums season tickets.

The Beach Bums Donation Fund was set up by the organization to benefit area athletic departments with expenses such as uniforms or facility upgrades. The Beach Bums award such programs in October of each year. Interested parties can write a letter to owner and CEO John Wuerfel with details of their requests for consideration.

Through the Donation Fund and other such initiatives, the Beach Bums, with the participation of their fans and sponsors, donated almost $145,000 in 2008 and a total of $369,000 over their first three seasons of operation.

The Traverse City Beach Bums were named the 2008 Frontier League Organization of the Year, the Grand Traverse Area VFW Supporters of the Year, and Community Champions by the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce.
