Beach Bums Continue to Build Roster

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums continued the formation of their 2013 roster with the signing of left-handed pitcher Shawn Marquardt.
Last season Marquardt pitched for the Frontier League Road Warriors for whom he went 2-5 with a 4.32 ERA. The lefty proved durable going seven innings in three of his seven starts while throwing 6.2 innings in another. Control was a key to Marquardt's success in 2012. He walked just 12 batters in 41.2 innings including only six over his last five starts, a span of 31.2 frames.
The lefty made three stops in his collegiate career. Marquardt concluded his amateur efforts with a 3-6 mark and a 5.00 ERA in 19 games (six starts) at Miami (OH) University (MAC - NCAA D-I) in 2011. He made his first college appearances on the mound with Northwest Florida State College (NJCAA - D-I) where he went 6-4 with a 5.48 ERA. Marquardt began his collegiate career as a redshirt freshman on the roster at Mississippi State University (SEC - NCAA D-I) in 2008 where he was a teammate of Beach Bums 1B/OF Jeff Flagg.
