Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(40-50) used a big first inning to power past the Schaumburg Boomers(38-54), for a 7-1 win on Wednesday night.
Marco Derkes led off the bottom of the first with an infield single, then moved to second when Jeff DeBlieux was hit by a pitch. A Jose Vargas single loaded the bases then, two batters later, Steven Patterson hit a double to right, driving in Derkes and DeBlieux, and the Bums were off and running. Elijah Trail followed with an RBI single to left, scoring Vargas, then Kendall Patrick hit an RBI double to score Patterson, and Traverse City led 4-0.
The Beach Bums continued to add on to their lead, starting in the fourth inning. Christian Santisteban led off with an infield single then moved to second on a wild pitch. Patrick grounded out to move Santisteban to third and then scored on a Ryan Bottger sacrifice fly. In the fifth, DeBlieux reached on an error and got to second on another wild pitch. After moving to third on a Kengor fly ball, he came in to score when Patterson beat out a double play ball for an RBI.
Schaumburg got on the scoreboard for the first time in the series, in the top of the sixth, when Jordan Dean hit an RBI sacrifice to center, scoring Nick Oberg who walked to lead off the inning. The Beach Bums responded in the bottom of the inning, on an RBI single by Casey Rodrigue, who plated Patrick.
Tucker Simpson evened his record at 4-4 with tonight's six inning performance. He allowed the lone run on three hits, a walk, and struck out five. Brett Mabry is dealt the loss to fall to 2-5 on the year. He went five innings, allowed seven hits, six runs, five of the earned, one walk, and struck out four. Traverse City relievers James Ball, Rob Blanc, and Joeanthony Rivera, combined to finish the game, allowing only one hit in the last three innings.
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and Schaumburg Boomers will battle in the finale of this three game series. Seth Webster will go for Schaumburg against the Beach Bums' Michael Shreves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call starting at 6:45pm with the Miller Lite pre-game show on 101.9- The Bay.
