Brevard County Manatees News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees rallied from a 3-0 deficit as they defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 4-3 on Tuesday night at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.
Despite giving up three runs in the first three innings, 2011 first round pick Taylor Jungmann earned his second professional victory. The righty settled down and retired 11 of the last 13 batters he faced. He went 6 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits, while striking out four and walking one.
A three-run fourth tied the game for the 'Tees as T.J. Mittelstaedt led the inning off with a single then Cody Hawn hit a two-run homer, his second of the season, to cut the Lakeland lead to 3-2.
Following Hawn's homer, Miguel Velazquez tripled and scored on Mike Walker single to tie the game at 3-3.
Brevard County would score what would be the game-winning run in the top of the fifth. Adam Weisenburger would lead off the inning by reaching base on an error. Juan Sanchez would follow with a walk and then Nick Shaw singled to load the bases.
That would chase Lakeland starter Shawn Teufel as the Flying Tigers brought Tyler Clark in from the bullpen. Clark would first face Mittlestaedt who hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Weisenburger and give Brevard County a 4-3 lead.
Hawn would then draw a walk to load the bases, but the Manatees were unable to do anymore damage as Velazquez and Walker both struck out to end the inning.
Thomas Keeling would come in for Jungmann with two outs in the seventh and was perfect in 1 1/3 innings of work with two strikeouts. Casey Medlen would shut the door in the ninth with a one-two-three innings and his third consecutive save.
Brevard County will go for the sweep of the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Jimmy Nelson (0-0, 1.80 ERA) will get his second start of the season for the 'Tees. Lakeland will counter with Kevin Eichhorn (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
