
BC Lions Sign Linebacker Carl Kidd

VANCOUVER, B.C. April 18, 2002 -- BC Lions General Manager, Adam Rita, today announced the signing of Linebacker Carl Kidd. In keeping with team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"We are very excited that Carl will be with the team this season," said Head Coach Steve Buratto. "He will play a huge role in our defence."
Kidd, is a 6'1" 205-pound native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Last season he played three games for the Lions, making nine tackles and 10 kickoff returns for 227 yards. Carl originally signed with the BC Lions as a free agent in October 2000 and had 21 tackles in five games played, recording six tackles in the 200 Grey Cup game.
Kidd signed with Minnesota in February 2001, remaining with the Vikings until August 2001. The 28-year-old first entered the NFL in 1995 as a rookie free agent with the Oakland Raiders, spending two seasons there before being released in August 1997. During 1998 and 1999 he spent some time with both the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kidd attended Arkansas State University and was a two-year letterman, posting 44 tackles as a senior defensive back in 1994. Kidd attended Oklahoma Junior College and earned Junior College All-American honors with 64 tackles and five interceptions. Kidd attended Dollarway High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he was a four-year letterman in football and an all-state sprinter in track and field.
Since 1954, the BC Lions have been Vancouver's premier professional football team appearing in seven Grey Cup Championships winning four of those contests.
