B.C. Lions News Release

VANCOUVER, B.C. February 6, 2003 -- BC Lions General Manager and Head Coach, Wally Buono, today announced the signing of quarterback Damon Allen. In keeping with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Damon is one of the most feared quarterbacks in the CFL," said Buono. "We are very pleased to have him continue to lead this team."

Allen, who is the CFL's all-time career leader in passing yardage at 58,407, is only 14 touchdown passes behind Ron Lancaster's CFL record of 333 career passing majors. Damon is the only quarterback in professional football to rush for over 10,000 yards in a career.

"I love this team, this city and most of all the fans," said Allen. "My goals are to lead this team to a 2003 Grey Cup win and assist this organization in developing a quarterback to take them into the future."

In week 13 of the 2002 season against the Bombers Allen threw his 130th touchdown pass in a Lions uniform. That touchdown pass broke Roy Dewalt's record of 129 touchdowns passes as a Lion, making Allen BC's all-time leader. Allen finished the season with 82 rushing touchdowns putting him past Matt Dunigan's career mark of 81; he now sits 4th on the all-time CFL rushing touchdown list. Aside from career stats, Damon is also a proven winner, appearing in four Grey Cup's, winning three and was voted the Cup MVP in 1993.

Allen, a Graduate of Cal State-Fullerton, set seven single-season records in his senior year with the Titans and was named a 1st-team Pacific Coast Athletic Association All-Star in 1984. Damon and his wife Desiree have three daughters and live in White Rock, B.C.
