Baysox Owner Honored As Executive Of The Year

BOWIE, Md. - Bowie Baysox owner Ken Young was honored yesterday as Baseball America Minor League Executive of the Year.

It is the first time a member of the Baysox has been honored with the award.

In addition to owning the Baysox, Young is the president of Ovations Food Services and owns the Frederick Keys, Norfolk Tides and Albuquerque Isotopes.

Baysox General Manager Brian Shallcross has worked with Ken Young since 2001, before Young purchased the Baysox and the Keys from Comcast Spectacor in November 2006.

Prior to owning the organization, Young was involved with the Baysox through Ovations Food Services.

Shallcross believes the award is a testament to Young's hard work and commitment to minor league baseball.

"The Bowie Baysox are proud to recognize Mr. Young's award," Shallcross said. "Mr. Young has proven over the years the value of community involvement and affordable family entertainment with an emphasis on fan experience."

He continued, "From Bowie's perspective, this award also validates Mr. Young's leadership within Minor League Baseball and strong relationships with our partners including the Baltimore Orioles and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission."

Baseball America

News Editor Josh Leventhal said Young was an excellent choice for the award.

"Ken Young's impact in so many areas of Minor League Baseball, and his unique background in the food services industry, made him a natural choice for Baseball America's Executive of the Year Award. Not only has Ken worked hard to make his affiliates successful, but he has also played a key role in the growth of the sport and consistently makes himself available to his colleagues for assistance and advice. While researching potential candidates for the award, we found nothing but high praise for Ken from people throughout the baseball industry, which certainly speaks to his impact on the game."

The Baysox open their 18th season as the class Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles at Prince George's Stadium on Thursday, April 8, at 7:05 p.m. against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
