BayHawks Win Fourth Straight Home Game
December 27, 2014 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania, Saturday, December 27, 2014 - The Erie BayHawks (6-7) won their fourth straight home game tonight by defeating the Bakersfield Jam (10-7) 118-107. Seth Curry led the way for Erie with 28 points while newly assigned rookie Roy Devyn Marble from the Orlando Magic posted 21 in his NBA Development League debut.
The Jam's Tyler Ennis, Archie Goodwin and T.J. Warren are on NBA assignment from the Phoenix Suns and all started tonight's game. Warren, who only scored one point on 26 minutes in last night's win at the Canton Charge, started the game hot as he hit double digits in the first quarter alone. Bakersfield went up by five, their largest lead of the game. A 13-6 BayHawk run to end the quarter helped Erie jump ahead as they lead by six heading into the second frame.
Bakersfield was able to regain the lead on a Warren three-pointer with less than five minutes to play in the first half. Back-to-back Erie three pointers by Devyn Marble and Lenzelle Smith, Jr. saw Erie rip the lead right back and led heading into the locker room 59-56.
After two lead changes midway through the third quarter in a battle of trading punches, it was Drew Crawford who ignited a spark, tallying ten points after being held scoreless in the first half. Erie used a 9-0 in the third quarter to lead heading into the final frame 87-81.
Erie never trailed the rest of the game and were up by as many as 16 points as Crawford continued his strong second half. Despite Warren's game high 29 points, Erie was able to snag a much needed win over a Jam team that had won four out of its last five heading into tonight's matchup.
Devyn Marble played a game high 41 minutes in his first game as an Erie BayHawk and had 21 points on 9-20 shooting with eight rebounds. Curry's 28 points on 10-13 shooting and 4-7 from downtown marks the third straight game he's gone over his average points per game as he is still second in the NBA D-League in scoring. Crawford finished with 19 points, all in the second half. Kadeem Batts had 11 and Smith, Jr. had a season high 14 points off the bench. Guards Peyton Siva and Jarvis Williams did not play due to injuries.
Warren's 29 point game for Bakersfield was just his third personal best in the NBA D-League as he scored 40 and 32 on opening weekend earlier in the year. Ennis followed with 14 points and five rebounds and Goodwin racked up 10 points and five rebounds. Earl Barron recorded the only double-double in the game with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Erie BayHawks host back-to-back games starting Monday when they play the Texas Legends for the first time this season. Tuesday is Erie's "Kayla McBride Day" as the BayHawks will rematch the Bakersfield Jam. Both game times are at 7:00 PM.
