BayHawks Stop Armor in Matinee Showdown

SPRINGFIELD, MA MARCH 8, 2011 - The Springfield Armor dug themselves into a deep hole early and never recovered in a 101-92 loss at Erie today. The Armor (11-29) trailed by 19 at halftime and 28 after three quarters, but scored a franchise-record 48 points in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to nine.

Erie (26-13) had five players score in double figures, led by reigning NBA D-League Co-Performer of the Month, Ivan Johnson, who dropped 27 points. Tasmin Mitchell chipped in with 20 points and 9 rebounds, Jermaine Beal, who was acquired last week from Austin, added 19 points, and Kyle Spain and Erik Daniels each scored 10 points to fuel the BayHawks' offensive attack.

The BayHawks shot 44% from the field, buried 28-34 free throws (82.4%), and out-rebounded the Armor 48-40, as Spain collected 10 rebounds and Mitchell and Nate Linhart pulled down 9 boards apiece.

One game after scoring a career-high 23 points in a last-second victory over Maine, Gavin Edwards continued his hot streak by scoring 22 points and snaring a career-high 14 rebounds off the bench. Scottie Reynolds tallied 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, Lance Hurdle scored 18 points (his highest point total since joining the Armor on Feb. 28th), and Eugene Spates scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds before fouling out.

The Armor shot 45% from the field, but committed 22 turnovers against the Eastern Conference's second-best team.

The Armor will return home for practice tomorrow in advance of Thursday's 7:00 p.m. game at the MassMutual Center against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. The two teams will play again at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
