BayHawks Give D-Fenders Erie Feeling

January 7, 2010 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

BOISE, ID Jan. 7, 2010 - The numbers told the story.

Nine steals for Erie, one for Los Angeles. Seven blocks for the BayHawks, two for the D-Fenders. Toss in 44 percent shooting for L.A., and the result was a very business-like 102-89 Erie victory.

Mike Gansey had one of the better all-around games of the Showcase, finishing with 25 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Largely viewed as a sure-fire second-round pick in 2006 (some felt he could sneak into the late first), Gansey skipped the NBA Pre-Draft Camp in Orlando, and subsequently went undrafted. He was quickly signed by the Miami Heat following the draft, but came down with a staph infection over the summer that derailed any chance he had of making the team.

"I'm just trying to do what I can, try to make plays, make shots, hustle and show scouts that I'm still a good player," said Gansey, who played his first two games with the BayHawks this week after being traded by the Idaho Stampede last week. "Today was exciting. L.A.'s a very good team. We've got a two-game winning streak now and hopefully we can keep it going."

Cedric Jackson had another strong game for Erie (6-11) with 16 points and 11 assists, while John Bryant added 18 points and 14 rebounds. Ryan Forehan-Kelly led the D-Fenders (7-7) with 28 points. Diamon Simpson added 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Erie returns to action Saturday when it hosts Fort Wayne. Los Angeles visits Bakersfield Saturday.
