
BayBears top Birmingham 5-4

MOBILE, AL- The BayBears fell behind Birmingham twice in the late innings Thursday, but came back to win 5-4. Michael Johnson?s single with two outs in the ninth inning scored Vincent Sinisi and broke a 4-4 tie. Sinisi had hit an RBI triple to tie the game at four. The BayBears led 3-2 going into the ninth inning, but Birmingham?s Tom Collaro hit his second home run of the night to give the Barons the 4-3 lead. After the comeback win, the BayBears are now 6-5, and are tied for first place in the South Division.
Sinisi was 4-for-4 Thursday, with two singles, a double and a triple. Brett Dowdy, Juan Ciriaco and Joey Gomes all had two hits for the BayBears. Sean Thompson did not factor in the decision, but had a strong outing, pitching 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits. The BayBears have now beaten Birmingham in four of the six games they?ve played.
The BayBears and Barons play again Friday at 7:05. Dirk Hayhurst (0-0) pitches for the BayBears against Birmingham?s Ray Liotta (3-7). All BayBears games can be heard on 1480 AM WABB, Comcast Cable Channel 18, and on the internet via mobilebaybears.com.
