BayBears suspended leading Stars 7-0

Huntsville, Ala. – The game between the Mobile BayBears and Huntsville Stars was suspended due to rain Sunday evening, with the BayBears leading 7-0 and batting in the top of the third inning.

The game will be resumed when the BayBears return to Huntsville the week of August 4th.

The BayBears scored twice in the first inning. Jake Gautreau drove in Freddy Guzman with a single up the middle. Todd Donovan then scored on a passed ball by Stars catcher Kade Johnson. Donovan tripled home Guzman in the second to extend the BayBears lead to 3-0.

In the third inning, after one as was out, the BayBears had five straight batters reach base with hits, then the rain came. Danny Bravo doubled and J.J. Furminiak beat out an infield single. Vince Faison followed with an RBI single scoring Bravo. Kevin Reinking then drove in Furminiak and sent Faison to third with a single to right. BayBears pitcher Steve Watkins smashed a double over the left fielder's head, scoring two more runs to make the score 7-0.

The umpires then called the players off the field and suspended play.

The BayBears will have the next three days off for the Southern League All Star game. They will resume play on Thursday in Birmingham. They will play a two-game series with the Barons before returning home on Saturday.
