Huntsville Stars News Release

Huntsville, AL – The Stars and Bears were suspended due to rain with Mobile leading, 7-0, in the top of the third inning. The game will be completed on Tuesday, August 5, at 6:05 p.m., then that night's scheduled game will follow 20 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.

Mobile jumped ahead with a two-run first, as Freddy Guzman led off with a single and stole second, then Todd Donovan walked. One out later, Jake Gautreau singled in Guzman and pushed Donovan to third. Donovan scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 Bears lead.

In the second, Guzman walked with two outs and stole second again, and Donovan ripped a triple to left-center, plating Guzman for a 3-0 lead. Finally in the third, Danny Bravo laced a one-out double and took third on Furmaniak's infield-single. Furmaniak reached second on an error by shortstop J.J. Hardy, who threw wildly trying to cut down Bravo at third. Vince Faison single home Bravo and moved Furmaniak to third, then Kevin Reinking lined a run-scoring single to right. Faison went from first to third on Reinking's base hit, and Reinking took second on Noochie Varnie's errant attempt to throw out Faison at third. Pitcher Steve Watkins doubled home Faison and Reinking to put Mobile up, 7-0. The rain came with Watkins at second, one out and Freddy Guzman coming up.

The Stars enjoy three days off for the all-star break – seven Stars players and the entire coaching staff will participate in the July 8 Southern League All-Star Game at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville – before resuming play Thursday night, July 10, at Tennessee. Huntsville sends righty Pedro Liriano (5-9, 2.96) to the mound against the Smokies. Game time is 6:15 p.m. CT. Stars baseball can be heard on Jammin' 1550 WLOR, ESPN 1450 WTKI and at www.huntsvillestars.com.
