Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA (May 7)- The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings and arenafootball2 league (af2), in conjunction with the Arena Football League and League partners Russell Athletic, Schutt Sports, Spalding, Pop Warner Little Scholars and USA Football, have declared the month of May as AFL Youth Football Month.
During the month of May, all 30 af2 teams and 19 AFL teams will participate in Youth Football Month with an overall goal of increasing awareness of local youth football leagues and driving local program registrations. Each team will distribute a "Pass & Catch" CD to the first 2,000 youths, ages 7-17 that pass through the turnstiles at the teams respective "Youth Football Night." The CD content, which features Chicago Rush quarterback and former af2 standout Matt D'Orazio on the cover, includes USA Football-approved passing and catching drills, an interactive game and facts about each AFL and af2 team. The CD is sponsored by USA Football, Schutt Sports and Spalding.
"This is a tremendous opportunity to get youngsters involved in organized football," said BattleWings Head Coach Jon Norris. "Our team and the league are working very hard to promote May as Youth Football Month in hopes of raising awareness of available leagues and getting kids signed up."
The BattleWings have designated Friday, May 18 as Youth Football Night as they host the Manchester Wolves at CenturyTel Center. A special Group rate has been set up for all Youth Football teams and organizations.
"We want all kids from all over the Ark-La-Tex to come out and cheer on the BattleWings," Norris added. "Hopefully, we'll be able to return the favor during some of their games later in the year."
"This is something we'd like to see grow each year," said BattleWings General Manager Butch Bellah. "It's an important project for the organization and one we'll work on throughout the year. It's not just open to teams in Shreveport-Bossier, but throughout the Ark-La-Tex."
Youth football coaches and league officials interested in bringing their teams to the game can call BattleWings General Manager Butch Bellah at 318-746-8755 during regular business hours for details.
