Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Battle Creek, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters eviscerated the Battle Creek Battle Jacks on Tuesday with a 11-1 victory in the final meeting of the two teams.

Although Battle Creek won the season series 7-5, Traverse City won the overall scoring 79-72. Battle Creek actually performed better on the road, taking four of six at Turtle Creek Stadium while splitting the series at C.O. Brown Stadium at home.

Nate Blain (1-0, 3.26) led the way in the victory with a stellar six-inning performance. He struck out three batters while only allowing three hits. He didn't allow a walk or run in the start.

O'Kelly McWilliams IV and Brandon Russell pitched an inning apiece, with neither allowing a hit or a walk. The Battle Jacks scratched one run across in the ninth but did so without a hit. Pit Spitter pitching kept the Battle Jacks without a hit for the final five innings of play.

Scoring occurred early and often for Traverse City. Michael Tchavdarov put his team on the board with a two-run single in the second inning.

In the fourth, Dallas Duarte and Jacob Charon hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning, Charon's knocking in Duarte. Alec Atkinson brought in Charon with a single and Sam Tackett hit a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead.

Back to work in the fifth, Evan Orzech knocked in a pair of runs with a single. The Pit Spitters wouldn't score again until the eighth. Tackett scored on a wild pitch. Charon followed with his second RBI hit of the game and Tchavdarov would hit a sacrifice fly for his third RBI of the game.

For good measure, the Pit Spitters scored one more run in the ninth on a Trey Truitt RBI single to make it 11-0, winning by a score of 11-1.
