Madison Mallards News Release
Green Bay, WI - The Mallards played in their final matchup of the season with the Green Bay Rockers on Tuesday night from Capital Credit Union Park in Green Bay and fell by a final score of 5-0.
A night after a controversial call helped Green Bay clinch game one, the Mallards offense was slow due to Will Semb's (8.2 IP, 7 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) superb start, coming just one batter away from a complete game shutout. Semb made it through all of that while just throwing 99 pitches in what figures to be his final start. He dueled Mallards' right hander Tommy Ellisen (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) in his final appearance with Madison. Offense was at a premium until the 5th inning when Green Bay took a 2-0 lead on a Luke Ballweg two-run home run of the freshman from UCONN.
The Mallards turned to the bullpen two innings later. Newcomer Mau Villegas lasted one inning while allowing four hits and two more runs. A double off the bat of Jake Mastillo extended the Rockers' lead to four. Evan Long was the third and final Madison pitcher of the contest. He allowed one run on a G.P. Gauthier solo blast. At the plate, Madison put one leadoff man on in the entire game in the 5th inning on a Chad McCann walk. The Mallards got multi-hit games from Liam Moreno and Colin Hageman in the shutout loss.
Madison plays host to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters one more time in the 2022 campaign before heading to Witter Field to wrap up the season series with the Northwoods League record holder for wins in a single season (53) after the Rafters' win over Fond du Lac last night. Game time at Warner Park is scheduled for 6:35 PM and game action can be found on the Northwoods League Baseball Network beginning at 6:10 PM.
