Battle Creek Bombers Top the Green Bay Bullfrogs, 6-2

Battle Creek, Mich. - It was a singles parade at the ballpark for the Battle Creek Bombers, as all 10 of the Bombers' hits were singles. Off their 10 singles, the Bombers scored six runs, en route to a 6-2 victory over the Green Bay Bullfrogs.

Christian Helsel started the single parade in the bottom of the second as he singled to lead off against Bullfrogs' starter Chad Mabini. Helsel was cut down at second on Kevin Dupree's grounder to short, but Dupree was safe and advanced to second on an errant throw by the Bullfrogs' second baseman.

With Dupree on second and one out, Dean Miller continued the singles parade for the Bombers as his single to right gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead. Ryan Dorow, Jacob Blunt and Eric Gilgenbach each followed with singles of their own, as Battle Creek took a 4-0 lead.

The Bombers would strike again in the fourth as Dorow singled and stole second base to give the Bombers a runner in scoring position with Gilgenbach stepping to the plate. Gilgenbach hit a deep liner to right-center that was caught on the warning track, but Dorow scored from second, extending the Bombers lead to 5. Dorow finished the night 3 for 4 with three singles and two runs scored.

The Bullfrogs would cut into the Bombers lead in the sixth against Tommy Parsons, as Zachary Bierman doubled to score Marcus Shoemaker who led off the inning with a single, but it was all they could muster against Parsons who had a terrific performance on the mound.

The Bombers would get the run back in the seventh as Daniel Patzlaff reached on an error and scored on another error on a grounder hit by Helsel.

Heading to the ninth, the Bombers led 6-1, and while the Bullfrogs would threaten against Brandon Guske and score a run off two Bombers errors, the Bombers would take game one of the two game set, 6-2.

Parsons had another terrific performance on the hill for Battle Creek, allowing just one run on seven hits, while striking out three. Parsons also didn't walk a batter and picked up his third win of the season. Mabini took the loss for Green Bay, as he allowed four runs in five innings pitched.

With the win the Bombers move to 12-11 on the season, while the Bullfrogs drop to 7-14.

The Bombers finish off the two-game set against Green Bay Wednesday evening at 7:05, before finishing the homestand against Rochester with a two-game set on Thursday and Friday.
