Batting Leader Zac Veen with Two More Hits But Yard Goats Drop Road Trip Finale

Reading, PA - Yard Goats outfielder Zac Veen had two more hits to raise his Eastern League leading batting average to .341, but the Yard Goats dropped their final game of the road trip, 6-3 to the Reading Fightin Phils on Sunday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Veen had a pair of singles in his first two at bats extending his hitting-streak to six games. Hartford's bullpen of Brendan Hardy, Alec Barger, Bryce McGowan, and Blake Goldsberry surrendered only an unearned run in four innings with five strikeouts. The Yard Goats finished the two-week road trip at 3-8 and are tied for third place in the division. Hartford returns home to Dunkin' Park on Tuesday and will open a six-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays affiliate, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
The Yard Goats scored a run in the first inning and welcomed Reading starter Robinson Pina with four consecutive singles, including an RBI hit by Warming Bernabel. Hartford had the bases loaded and no outs but only scored one run.
After Reading tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Fightins' took a 3-1 lead with two runs on two hits and a walk in the second inning against Hartford starter Connor Van Scoyoc.
Braxton Fulford clubbed a double, scoring Warming Bernabel in the third inning to make it a 3-2 game. However, Hartford would manage just one more hit against Pina, who pitched six solid innings, and was backed by two more runs in the fourth inning on two hits, and two errors. Reading's bullpen only allowed two baserunners over the final three innings, helping the Fightin Phillies take five of six games against Hartford.
The Yard Goats host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Tuesday night (7:10 PM) at Dunkin' Park. LHP Carson Palmquist will start for the Yard Goats.
