June 2, 2010 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charleston Battery News Release
The Charleston Battery has a chance to avenge its only defeat of 2010 Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium as it takes on the Harrisburg City Islanders ($10 - $18, 971-GOAL (4625) / charlestonbattery.com). The City Islanders beat Charleston 2-1 in a game played in Harrisburg back on May 22, Charleston defeated the City Islanders 3-1 in a game played at Blackbaud on May 8.
Friday night's game is presented by avVenta with a free Charleston Battery t-shirt for the first 500 fans through the turnstiles.
Charleston (6-1-2, 20 points) enters the match in first place in the USL-2 standings eight points clear of second place Richmond; Harrisburg (1-4-2, 5 points) is in sixth position with the City Islanders only win coming versus the Battery
The defeat at Harrisburg on May 22 saw the Battery play for the majority of the second half with only ten men after former College of Charleston midfielder Zach Prince was sent off in the 46th minute. Kevin Jackson scored the lone Battery goal in the 86th minute with a follow-up finish after City Islanders goalkeeper Danny Cepero saved his penalty attempt.
The Battery narrowly avoided defeat last Saturday with a two-goal fight back versus the Real Maryland Monarchs. After conceding two goals in the first half Charleston forward Lamar Neagle scored twice including a stoppage time header to earn the Battery a tie; Charleston remains unbeaten at Blackbaud Stadium this season.
Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser has several players returning this weekend with Zach Prince available again following his one-match suspension and veteran midfielder Stephen Armstrong resuming training. The only injury doubt is rookie midfielder John Gruenewald who continues to recover from the hip-flexor injury that has sidelined him since pre-season.
Immediately following the game versus Harrisburg Charleston will depart for Richmond, VA. The Battery takes on the Richmond Kickers on Saturday night at 7 PM (www.charlestonbattery.com / 950 AM).
