Isles Seek Two Wins On The Road

June 2, 2010 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

The Islanders brace for some tough away games.

This weekend marks a road trip for the Harrisburg City Islanders (1-4-2, 5 points) as they travel south to face the Charleston Battery (6-1-2, 20 points) at Blackbaud Stadium and the Charlotte Eagles (3-3-2, 11 points) at Charlotte Christian Stadium on Friday, June 4, and Saturday, June 5.

Harrisburg signed Tyler Ruthven--whose experience includes playing for the Premier Development League's Chicago Fire--hoping to boost defensive play. If his contract is appcrazysoccerpicroved by the league in time he'll look to be a solid asset in the coming matches this weekend.

The Islanders lost the first match against Charleston Battery 3-1 at Blackbaud Stadium earlier in the season, but beat the Battery 2-1 at Skyline Sports Complex on City Island to capture their first win and end Charleston's undefeated stretch. Dustin Bixler netted his first-ever goal for Harrisburg in the game, and the Islanders proved they could be a legitimate threat to any team when the right pieces were in place.

Can the Islanders repeat the magic?

"We just need to make sure we come with the same focus and find ways to score goals," said Coach Bill Becher. "We played pretty well but struggled with scoring, we just need to have a little bit better concentration." But overall he has a positive outlook based on what the Islanders have done the past few weeks. "...there is really no real need to change stuff up we just need to execute better on the offensive end."

Charlotte looks to challenge Harrisburg yet again. The Eagles blanked the Islanders 2-0 in their first meeting this season, and then played them to a 0-0 draw this past Saturday on City Island. Islanders Dustin Bixler and Sheanon Williams were both named to the USL-Second Division Team of the Week.

Although there is improvement on all sides of the ball, the Islanders hope they can achieve a better result this coming weekend. The Islanders, in last place in USL-Second Division, seek to climb the standings by taking down first place Charleston and third place Charlotte in critical matches for a team building for more success.

The City Islanders take a road trip and face the Charleston Battery this Friday, June 4 at Blackbaud Stadium and the Charlotte Eagles this Saturday, June 5 at Charlotte Christian Stadium. The next home game for the City Islanders is on Friday, June 11 against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (1-3-3, 6 points) at Skyline Sports Complex on City Island. Youth tickets (ages 5-18) only cost $5. To purchase tickets for home games and find more information call 717-441-GOAL or check out the official City Islander website at www.cityislanders.com.
